Many moons ago, the great and wonderful Uncle Charlie and the Japanese Manufactures had a revelation and formed a covenant with one another. As they saw their numbers dwindling, they devised a plan that would be beneficial to both parties....do away with the Old Covenant of Morse Code and develop a New Covenant. New converts would be called No-Code Techies. The established religious community was not pleased. Like the Pharisees of Old, they liked doing things by the Old Covenant Law. Petitions and prayers were offered to the great and wonderful Uncle Charlie but to no avail, the Techies came into the fold by the hundreds, yea, thousands. The Japanese were even happier than they were on Dec. 7, 1941. The only thing left for the established religious community to do was to ridicule the new converts. Thus, instead of true hams, the interlopers became SPAMS, not quite good enough to be among the true CW believers.One day, Goliath was spouting off about the lowly SPAMS on the Great Repeater of wise and wonderful thoughts. ("Can you hear me, I can hear you...") Along came a new convert with the modest prefix of KD4 (OQV) who slew the Giant with a sling and a sharp tongue. It seems that this little David was a giant in his own right, one who was practicing the faith of CW against the Japanese over 50 years prior. A revolution was born that day. Hundreds, yea, thousands flocked to a new leader and left the Great Repeater. KD4OQV was anointed with the title of Grand SPAM and the new converts wore the name SPAM as a Red Badge of Courage. A new Promised Land was discovered in the land of Simplex in the territory of 147.555. And they all loved one another but continued to fuss and fight like they did in their youth as infidels on the CB radio. All is well in the land of SPAM Radio. Epilogue.... Many of the original SPAMs upgraded to the level of high priest. Even the GRAND SPAM left his lowly KD4 roots and got the call KR4WN. Some remained with the KD4's just as a reminder to all converts....Once a SPAM, always a SPAM!
