OF THE GOVERNOR OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF PUERTO RICO
AMATEUR RADIO WEEK
WHEREAS: Amateur radio operators are persons interested in radio communication techniques, who possess their own receiving and transmitting equipment to communicate locally and with the rest of the world;
WHEREAS: The amateur radio operators of Puerto Rico render a valuable communication service to the Puerto Rican community while they foster friendship, exchange and good relations between Puerto Rico and the other countries of the world,;
WHEREAS: In countless emergency situations the amateur radio operators of Puerto Rico have placed their services and equipment at the disposition of the Puerto Rican community, in order to complement regular local communications and those with the exterior;
WHEREAS: The selfless civic work of the amateur radio operators of Puerto Rico to benefit our people should be a cause for the greatest public recognition;
THERFORE: I, CARLOS ROMERO BARCELO, Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, proclaim the period from the 24th to the 30th of April, 1977 as AMATEUR RADIO WEEK in Puerto Rico, and I urge all public and private concerns in the land, the communications media and the community in general, to give due tribute of recognition to the amateur radio operators of Puerto Rico for the valuable service that they offer to our people.
IN TESTIMONY THEREOF, I sign this proclamation and place upon it the Great Seal of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, in the City of San Juan, today, the 20th day of April, A.D., nineteen hundred seventy seven.
