LATITUDE/LONGITUDE

I have been a licensed Amateur Radio Operator since May of 1989.
As a Technician Plus, my call was N6VUE until I upgraded to a General in
October of 2001. I am now using KG6HQj as my call .
I have been working mostly 2m VHF for that time. The only time I work HF is when
I am on duty with the California State Military Reserve.
After renewing my Technician Plus license in March of 1999, I realized that I wanted to
work HF, so I started putting together an HF Station.
I plan to upgrade to an Amatuer Extra class in the near future. My QTH
is Burbank, California.
I work mostly packet radio and VHF 2M mobile. I use an ICOM IC-27H 2M
transceiver and a Kantronics KPC-3 TNC with a no-name, hacked together
Pentium 100 computer in the shack. I am using the IC-27H temporarily, until
I can obtain a used Kenwood TS-711A all mode 2M transceiver. At some point,
I will be getting into APRS, but I don't have the time right now.
In putting together an HF station, I decided to buy a Kenwood TS-440SAT HF
rig. I cannot afford the latest and greatest, so I opted for a used rig.
In fact everything is used equipment. As with most Hams, cost is an issue,
so I am doing it slowly. Just about everything I have obtained, or plan
to obtain, I have aquired through auctions on
eBay. View the block
diagram or equipment page to see
my shack set-up.
When I am not on the air, in school, working or spending time with my family,
I am a Master Sergeant with the California
State Military Reserve. I am the Communications-Electronics Section Chief
for the C-E section, Installation Support Group. I have been in the CASMR for
15 years. Click here for more info on our mission.
I have provided many links of interest on this site, both for Amateur Radio and the Military.

There is a wealth of information on this site which is constantly changing, so stop by often!
Although I was almost a licensed ham back in the '60's when I was a teenager,
I never completed the code. It was through my position with the CSMR that
I finally became a licensed amatuer operator.
