Hilltopping on Coyote Peak 2-13-05

I went back up to Coyote Peak to try out the new portable beam on 2m SSB.

Here's a picture of the setup I used for 2m SSB. The mast was extended to its full length of 12 feet. I attached it to the fence post with a couple of rubber tie-down straps (thanks for the idea, Allen). The coax from the antenna is connected to the Yaesu FT-817 sitting on top of the fence. Here's a closeup of the equipment. The VX-150 is on the left and the FT-817 is next to it. The pad of paper is the "log book".
Here I am posing with the FT-817 around my neck. The Yaesu comes with a nice neck strap. This picture was snapped by a hiker named "Bruce" who was also on the peak at that time. I gave him this web site address, so I'll say "Thanks again, Bruce." if you happen to be reading this.
Someone asked how close the transmitter tower was to where I operate the radios on Coyote Peak. Here's a snapshot from the other side of the fence showing the tower in the background.
Here's a shot of the radio equipment building on Coyote Peak along with the base of the tower.
Here's a view of the top half of the tower.
This is a picture of the Arrow portable beam after I packed it up for the trip back down the trail.
This is the view of Coyote Peak from the parking lot. It was getting dark when I got back down the hill. The trail to the top is approximately one mile in length.
