Digital Photo Tests, and some of my art…..

These are done as links to save my time right now ;-) and to save you download time. It's worth checking them all out though! The bottom of the page has samples of my art - they will soon get their own page, but scroll down for now….

Some solar pics, first sunlight for the SAC IV digital astro cam, taken under non-optimum conditions, but still interesting:

Here are some unidentified prepared slides. They could be rat brains, mouse brains, or a tumor of some type. See if you can identify these!!

Slide 1 with magnified inset

Slide 2

A test of the Intel digital microscope at 200x vs. using the astro cam at prime focus on an optical microscope at 500x. The astro cam was held freehand while focusing, capturing, etc:

And now some assorted insects with the Intel microscope:

And now for something completely different, here are some pics of my work as an artist. It's not complete, but as I get around to adding to it…..

These are pics of a bed from ribbon stripe Mahogany, Wenge, and Australian Tiger Myrtle. As you can see it involves numerous techniques including turning, laminating, and more. There will be several closeups coming, but for now, look at this.

This is a jewelry type chest named "Remember" - dovetailed Walnut case, Rosewood and Ebony dovetailed drawer fronts, Spanish Cedar and Maple drawers and Wenge legs.

These are 2 pics of a movable baptismal font, which matches the church interior. The top is Walnut, Goncalo Alves, and Ebony inlay, with Mahogany for the bowl platform, and American Ash for the body. The cross is Yellow Heart and Purple Heart - a frontal view, a top view (note the stained glass reflection in the top), and a better detailed top view.

These are two in a series I call the "Foundation" series. The first is Foundation Shapes (and pic 2) of Goncalo Alves, Ebony, Padauk, Purpleheart, ebonized Birch, and Wenge. The second is Foundation Love of Goncalo Alves, Ebony, ebonized Birch, and Purpleheart.

This is a table of Cherry, Ash and Wenge, shot in the gallery while on display in the front window.

This is called Sanity, and is full of symbolism on the human effects of corporate life. It is made of Walnut, Ebony and Padauk, with a glass bead lining. A second view. This was accepted into the prestigious Decatur Art Show several years ago.

This is a table that was headed out the door in a rush, and folks said it was too pretty to go without a picture, so hasty ones were taken. The photography isn't the greatest, but you can tell it was made from Curly Cherry. More of the side view, and more of the top view shown here.

A few years ago, I was approached to do a piece for the Habitat for Humanity Birdhouse Auction. I created a faux tree of Yellow Pine 'growing' from a large piece of Georgia Slate. On it hung several birdhouses of woods from all over the world, symbolizing both the local event and efforts, as well as the international benefits of Habitat. It was one of the few out of thousands that was awarded and selected for live auction, where it was one of the highest bid of the evening.

This is a joint project between myself, Pete, and some of his first grade class three years ago. It is a paper pulp sculpture of each artist's hands coming together in a handshake amid a field of stars. It was awarded an opening at the Robert C. Williams Museum, and at their request is now part of their permanent collection. This is the opening night, the sculpture, and Pete offering his insights.
