KG4EYO AMATEUR RADIO WEBPAGE

Have Radio, Will Travel

Welcome

My name is William Seffens. I live in West Georgia near Atlanta and am a member of the Kennehoochee Amateur Radio Club (TARC), AMSAT, and the ARRL. I have been an amateur radio operator since 1999, just before Y2K. I started as a Technician, and plan to work my way through the ranks to Advanced. My interest in amateur radio has run the gamut from VLF as a Lowfer to UHF.  I prefer digital modes like APRS, since I don’t find I have much to say over the air!  I hope to become an amateur satellite operator, if only to intentionally beam signals towards space. If you have no software to track satellites and your browser is Java capable, go to J-Track 2.5.

Check these out, for neat stuff involving Ham radio and Internet:

Base Setup

I have my base station set up around APRS using a 144.390 data radio and TNC-2 from MFJ.

My antenna is a Cushcraft . All feedline is 9913F.

For satellites use NOVA for Windows to track analog satellites and WiSP32 for Windows to track digital satellites. Both of these software packages interface with the Kansas City Tracker which "tells" the rotor controller where to point.

To guide all this, I have several home-built computers connected to a 100-Base-T LAN with a WebRamp router attached to a cable modem.

APRS

I am also becoming increasingly interested in APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System). APRS is a system whereby one can track APRS users for any multitude of reasons such as Skywarn, runners in a marathon, search and rescue, etc. For more information and a much better explanation go to KD4RDB's webpage. See if you can find me.

javAPRS

(please give the file time to load)

K4HG, for developing the above Java Applet and javAPRS command table.

SETI@home

Wanna help search for ET? Join hundreds of thousands of computer users who are helping to analyze radio telescope data. Not only that, but it's also a cool screensaver. There's even an Amateur Radio Operator Group.

If you want to process more data, set up the SETI@home screensaver to go blank after 0 minutes. The software uses a lot of processor time just re-drawing the graphs in the screensaver.

Occupation

I am a professor of Biology at Clark Atlanta University.
