QRZ callsign lookup:

bulletI frequently talk on 2 meters and I am looking to educate myself and upgrade my license in the near future to the General Class.  I hope to soon learn how to talk through the AMSAT satellites as well, and now I believe I have all the necessary equipment to do so.  You can normally find me in Chattanooga on the 146.790 repeater.

I just applied for a vanity call-sign and am not sure when it will take effect.  I called and they said it normally takes 18 days.  We'll see though.  Today is 3/20/02 so I'll post when it becomes active.

As far as my current equipment it so far consists of a Yaesu 2M radio and three antennas:

bullet Yaesu FT-1500M 2M Mobile

bullet Larsen 1/4 Wave 2M and Larsen 5/8 2M Antenna
bullet Hamstick Scanner Antenna (Used for my Scanner)

My station now is primarily mobile,  with all my equipment mounted in my Car.

I am proud to say that my Mobile station works quite well (to my surprise) and I have been able to reach a fairly long distance (about 240 miles) at some locations.

I have recently re-wired an old Ten-Tec power supply that belonged to my Grandfather so that I can use my radio indoors as a base station.  I have the radio hooked up to a 5/8 wave Magnet Mount Antenna and it also works quite well.

I have purchased all the training materials I need to upgrade my license to the General Class so that I can get into HF.  However, I'm not quite sure yet how much of an HF station I can get set up since I am in an apartment, but I'm sure I will be able to work something out.  I've been given some great advice by some various Ham's about getting maximum performance from smaller antenna's.

I will make several updates to this page as I get time,  but for now I will list several interesting Ham radio websites.
