And you thought there was a time when it was just the Navy? Nope... try this cover from the U.S. Army AVN (Aviation) Detachment from 1966. If you look closely, you can read the word "ARMY" on the fuselage of the helicopter in the cachet.

Actually, the Army had maintained a large logistics presence for years, and worked in cooperation with logistical teams from New Zealand in terminal operations as well as material support. Only in the last few years was their role replaced by units of the U.S. Air Force, and the private contractors.
