Close-up of mount and Inductor.  The quick-connect on the antenna base mounts to the threads on the left.  A 1/2 bolt normally holds the mount to the vehicle, I cut the head off a bolt and use a nut since there isn't room underneath the mount for a bolt in my installation.

mount2.jpg (338384 bytes)

Close-up of mount on my Chevy Blazer.  You can see there isn't much room between the receiver and the bottom of the stud.  There is normally a ground braid, and a ground wire for the inductor mounted under the nut and washers but they were left off to keep the nut and the amount of clearance visible.

I chose to use the bumper mount instead of using a receiver hitch so I can tow a trailer while operating HF.  The antenna may perform slightly better mounted a foot farther away from the back of the vehicle but I don't bump into the mount with my knee or shin this way!

mount3.jpg (370079 bytes)

Close-up of the mount with the antenna base and quick disconnect visible.  The antenna sits on the base and the large knurled ring is tightened.  The ring is flattened so it may be tightened or loosened with a pipe wrench or Big crescent wrench (it's large enough that hand-tightening works pretty well).

mount4.jpg (268894 bytes)

Close-up of the 3/8-24 hood mount I use for the 20 meter Hustler antenna.  I use this antenna when I'm making a short trip or the xyl and kids are along (this lessens the ham visual impact).

View of Blazer so antenna height is visible. This is not a Drive-Thru antenna!

View of the hood mounted Hustler with 20 meter resonator and short mounting shaft.

View of the mounting position of the Icom 706 control head.  The unit is mounted in the rear of the Blazer and the speaker and separation cables are routed to the console.
