KF8GR Alcohol Windscreen/Chimney and Wood Burner

The windscreen and wood burner is also a very simple idea.  All you need is an empty Number Ten can salvaged from the waste basket, some heavy wire (like a coat hanger or some metal tent stakes, and a hole punch (the kind used to punch holes one at a time in paper).

Building the Windscreen/Chimney
Cut both ends out of the can.
Put evenly spaced holes about 3/8 inches apart all around the can just over the lip.  Cutting metal with a paper punch will make you hands sore, so take your time.
Now, cut another row of holes above the first row staggered between the lower holes.
Measure up about 2 1/2 in. and put holes in the side of the can with a punch or nail so you can push the coat hanger wire through to hold your metal cup/pot.
Push through the coat hanger pieces and bend the ends to hold them in place.
You are done.

Using the Windscreen/Chimney with the Alcohol stoves.
Set the fueled stove on a burnproof and stable flat surface
light the stove.
Set the Windscreen/Chimney over the stove
Put your cup down in the Chimney and start cooking.

Using the Windscreen as a wood burner (like a Hobo stove)
Find small tinder sized chunks of wood that will fit inside the stove.
Drop them into the windscreen and fill to below the pot holder wires.
Sprinkle a few drops of alchohol on the tinder.
Light through the air holes near the bottom.
Let fire get started, and put cup on the stove.
You are cooking.

Notes on the Windscreen/Chimney
Obviously, the windscreen will make your stove pack larger.  But, if you carefully select your alcohol container, and cooking utensils, you will be able to stuff your stove(s), cup, alcohol and utensils into the Windscreen/Chimney.
