Welcome to the

From the Northern Neck of Virginia

Introduction

Well, this is my first try at making a homepage. I am new to the Ham Radio hobby as you can tell from my call sign. I studied for a couple of day and took the Tech No-Code and General written and passed both. Missed the Advanced written by two questions. I didn't feel bad about not passing the Advanced since I really didn't study that part. I plan on having the 13 wpm code and Advanced by end of the summer and I already have my eyes on an HF rig.

About Me

Was a member of the US Yacht Club (U.S. Navy) as an Electronics Technician (ET). Worked on VLF/HF/UHF and SatCom communications equipment, Radars and anything else that was broke. Finished my BS degree in Mechanical Engineering at West Virginia Institute of Technology. But now they call it the West Virginia University Institute of Technology . I am currently working at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division as a Systems Engineer.

About My Equipment

Well I am started out on a 2-meter HT that I bought from my brother Bill (KU4PV). It's an ICOM IC-02AT and I bought a 35W amp and a

5/8 wave antenna. Nice little rig for 2-meter work.  However, the new equipment bug got a hold on me and I bought a Cushcraft AR-270B

and mounted up about 30 feet or so.  Helped a lot working local repeaters, for about 60 miles around.  Then I bought an  ICOM IC-W32A

for the dual band work.  Radio Shack had a close out on the HTX-202 so I picked up a nice spare HT for less than $100 new in the box.

Now for the HF work.

I bought a slightly used  ICOM IC-751 with PS-30 power supply, AT-500 auto tuner, SP-8 external speaker and a 5-band trapped
vertical for a song and a little dancing.  Yes, I know it has been a while since I got my ticket and know I am finally upgrading it.

Well, August 12 I finally got around to upgrading my ticket.  I now have the call sign AG4BW.  I now have the bug for DX chasing and

Things are starting to look good.  Easy to hit most of Europe from my QTH and you can even get a look at my old KF4YYA qsl card.

These are going to be very rare since I have only used about 8-10 of these.  KF4YYA QSL CARD
