Welcome to my computing page.

Here you will find two kinds of links to all kinds of sites dealing with things pertaining to computers. On the one hand, we have Freeware, and on the other hand we have Shareware, which includes Demos.

Want to add more "oomph" to your computer, but can't afford to buy new software? You have come to the right place, then. Believe it or not, there is a movement out there in the hyper-blue yonder to give people like you and me access to great software free of charge. And a lot of software people put their old stuff out as shareware just to get people to try their products.

But before you go anywhere, you will need at least two different programs.
The first is an unzipping program. Many files that you will want to download are quite long, and would take forever to download in their regular format. A zip program compresses these files so that they download faster, which means you need a way to unzip the program once you have it on your computer.
Next you will need some antivirus software. Make sure you download the free version of AVG. I have linked you to AVG, a TOP NOTCH freeware virus protection program that has weekly updates, doesn't take forever to download, and runs quickly. Not to slam the other guys, but I have tried both "N" and "M" and "P", and I think the way they keep you from getting viruses is by locking up your computer so you can't even get the time of day, much less infected! Surely you have heard of viruses, so I don't need to go into the need for this kind of software, though I have downloaded numerous files and have never scanned one yet for a virus. The media can be thanked for all the hype surrounding viruses, they aren't as common as most people think they are, but it is prudent to have a good program on your computer. And you don't need the danged thing to run every time you blink. If you download something, scan it. If someone gives you a floppy to use, scan it. Otherwise, don't waste your time and resources by having an antivirus program running in the background. Scan once a week. If you are paranoid, though, scan your ASCII off!!!

FREEWARE

Most of the software you will find here is going to be "freeware". This means that the programmers have created the programs for you to download and use at no cost, no frills, no tag, tax, title. You will find some shareware on some of the sites listed here. For an explanation, read the shareware link description below.

.....FREE INTERNET SERVICE !!!.....

SHAREWARE
This stuff is out there for you to download and evaluate and decide if you want to pay for it or not. The deal with it is, most of these programs are sort of old. Not obsolete, just older versions of programs that are out now. Say there is a Nose-wipe ver3.0 on the market that you have to pay for. Most likely there is a shareware version like Nose-wipe ver2.5 out there that is no longer justifiable for the makers to charge for, so they put it out to pasture as shareware.

Sometimes these programs are in limited form, and have to be registered before you get a code that will unlock it's full potential. Or perhaps there are demo versions of new software that you can download and use for a specific period of time, then the program extracts itself unless you register it (pay for it). Not very cricket, eh what? Well, it's their toy, let them have their fun with it. I suggest that if you find one of these, go and see if you can find a freeware version just like it somewhere, under a different name of course, and download it and thumb your nose at the guys who want you to pay money.

Now just because the shareware versions say that you can evaluate them for so long and then ask you to pay for them doesn't mean that they expect you to actually pay for them. They WANT you to, but figure most people don't, and because the program is so old and all, what the heck, maybe you will like it so much that you will want to upgrade to the newer version and pay for it, which is something that happens all the time. Oh, and you didn't hear this from me.

A word of caution: make sure you read the terms of usage first, so you don't use the program illegally.
