Savannah/Chatham County Public Safety Communications Primer
Savannah and Chatham County have a somewhat different public safety situation from many areas in Georgia. To start off with, Chatham County has both a Police Department and a Sheriff's Office. The PD handles normal law enforcement duties while the SO handles warrant service, jail administration and operation, and also has a small enforcement division. Each city in Chatham County has its own police department and fire department although not each city has it's own dispatch center. Chatham County does not have it's own EMS operation; EMS services are contracted to Southside Fire/EMS and MedStar Ambulance Service.
