First let me tell you what Web Rings are NOT ! They are NOT a Cult or a Religious Organization. How ever Cults or Religious group can Start a Web Ring just like any body else. So What are they, to put it simply they are web links. These links are usually a group of similar type web page. For more information please read why. Most Rings have a JOIN link which will take you to a page listing requirements to join the Ring and a sign up form to fill out also how to put the links on your page.

      Just about all Web Rings work off of the same server. These Rings use a special program at this server to figure out who is the next web page. In theory where ever you start at if you go through all the NEXT links you will be back where you started. There are other choices besides NEXT, sometimes the next server may be down so instead of having to wait on that server you can use SKIP or NEXT 5. If you like to roll the dice you can use RANDOM. And if you like going backwards use BACK.

      If you have ever done a web search ( e. g. yahoo, Alta Vista) and got back so many hits and most not even what you where looking for, you know why Web Rings where started. Once you find a page that has a Web Ring and is on a subject ( this could be a program that all users in the ring use ) or style ( like all cool sites or high graphics sites ) you like, you are ready to start surfing the web.
