6EA8 and the 6CQ8

There has been a rumor that you can replace V1 a 6EA8 with the 6CQ8 in the
HW and SB series and this will give you more audio drive.

Here are the facts about the 2 tubes.

----------
6EA8 --------------- 6CQ8

As you see the pinout for these 2 tubes do not match. If you try to put a 6CQ8
in the V1 socket what will happen is you will burn out the 4 carrier
diodes in the balance modulator and the 6CQ8 will also burn out.

The 6EA8 is a triode - pentode and the 6CQ8 is a triode - tetrode.

If you are looking for a stronger tube for the mic preamp (V1) the 2 best tubes
for the replacement are the 6GH8 and 6LM8. Both of these are direct plug in
replacement tubes that both have an amplification factor of 46. The 6EA8 has
an amplification factor of 40, the 6CQ8 an amplification factor of 40 and a completely different tube.

Many hours were spent on cross referencing 20
different factors between each tube.
