Skyrider Install Notes

Skyrider Install notes:

Just click on the "Skyrider Version 1.4" link first and save it to disk. Then do the same to the Version 1.5 upgrade. Using Windows Explorer, open the directory containing the saved files and lick on the skyv1_4b.exe first. This should explode the program and create a file called SETUP.EXE. Click on this file and setup will run. Some people may not be able to run SETUP. The process may hang due to a "file already in use" error. If this occurs do the following:

A. Open the file SETUP.LST using Notepad (this file was created when skyv1_4b.exe was exploded

B. Delete the last line (this should read DDEML.DL_)

C. Save the file

D. Click on SETUP.EXE (as before)

E. Everything should work normally.

After this is complete, run the sky1_5up.exe file. This will create a new Skyrider file that is version 1.5. Make sure this file overwrites the old Skyrider v1.4 file. That completes the setup.

Some people have been having a hard time trying to get the setup program to work correctly...it doesn't seem to like some computers!!  To cure this, I have packaged the program in a .zip file.

To use download the Skyrider.zip file and extract it using WinZip.  It should automatically extract to C:\Skyrider. Using Windows Explorer, open C:/Skyrider and double click on install.bat. This will copy necessary .DLL and .VBX files into the Windows directory, as well as install a shortcut on the Desktop. It is important that Windows be in C:\Windows else the files will get sent to a non-existent directory!!!

Some people have been experiencing problems with installing Skyrider due to a invalid version of the file MSCOMM.VBX. Skyrider will only work with version 2.0.900.7 of MSCOMM.VBX. Many thanks to Lee, KB9KM who discovered the fix. Reboot the machine into safe mode. Search for the file MSCOMM.VBX. Once the file is found, right-click on the file and look at "Properties". Verify the version is NOT 2.0.900.7. If it isn't, rename the existing MSCOMM.VBX something like MSCOMM.SKY. Install Skyrider as usual. This will place the correct version of the MSCOMM.VBX file on your machine. Reboot back in to normal mode. You're done!
