 Ham Radio Waine’s way

What a Ham I am:

Hi, my name is Waine and my callsign is KE1KX. I thought it would be fun to create a ham radio web page so thanks to the people at QSl.net for the opportunity. I have been a Ham since May 1997. I’ve always been interested in radio, but never really had been exposed to Amateur Radio. I started getting serious about what was required to become a ham operator. I meet a couple of hams in the local area, then I bought a book and some morse code tapes. Four months later after many evenings of copying code and studying, I passed my first exam and a 5 word per minute code test…. WOW, I’m a real ham now with a Tech Plus license. Praise The Lord Jesus! I’ll never forget how excited I was that day! After I was issued a call sign ( N1ZGP ) I was able to buy a used Icom 2 meter FM mobile radio. Then in November ’97 I bought an old boat anchor HF radio, a Kenwood TS-520SE. Now it was time to get some antennas up. My friend Bob ( K1AVQ ) was a big help. He built a 3 element 10 meter yagi and a ½ wave 80 meter dipole. We waited for cold snowy days before putting up the antennas, hi hi. This was great! I was Working 10 meter phone/CW and 80 meter CW with great excitement. I passed the next 2 levels of exams since then and now hold an Advanced amateur radio license. I have also added to the antenna farm with a ½ wave 40 meter dipole under the 80 meter antenna at the feed point for a dual bander. I put up a ½ wave dipole up for 160 meters and Bob built a 5 element yagi for 6 meters for me. With the help from Bob, K1AVQ, Dave ( N1ZZE ), Gary ( KB1ESJ ), my Dad, and my wonderful XYL, I’ve really enjoyed being on the air meeting other hams all over the world as well as rag chewing with my local ham friends.
