Tower Site Work Gets Serious

Jack Johansen, W0JEJ, and his team dig through six feet of compacted clay at the KE0UI tower site, and the rebar cage is completed (June 14)

The 1/2 inch steel rebar, formed to fit the tower hole, is ready for cage construction.

The tent over the tower hole prevents moisture from destroying the 3.5 ft square hole's side walls.

The rebar cage is constructed by weaving the 144 rods together using 16 ga. steel wire at each junction point.

The cage will "float" in the concrete base, unconnected to any grounding sources to prevent explosion of the base on a direct lightning hit.
