Trip to Palmera Contest Station, Feb 23-24, 2002

In the higher elevations near the Divide, the weather starts to change.

We stop along the roadside to smell the coffee, a long way from Starbucks.
Coffee beans ready for hand picking are the color of cranberries. (See larger image)
The greenery around the contest station. Click for larger image. How high does the tower go? Keko has two towers at Palmera which will have significant hardware mounted on them in the future. Although the weather wasn't ideal for a picnic, the fog did produce some mysterious and beautiful effects.

Keko has our tires DEFLATED in order to better negot.iate the boulder-filled road to the contest QTH. We arrive at the station to find Murphy has been here. The power is off! Keko comes back 30 minutes later with good news. He's repaired the faulty wiring in the substation down the hill. I get on the air and make 325 QSOs in about 7 hours of operating.
