Intermountain Electronics

Update 20 January 2010 - This system appears to be defunct. I'll leave this information up, in case this is only a temporary outage, of in case it has been relocated to a different comm site.

IEC, based in Ogden, has been operating LTR trunking for a number of years.

The 800 MHz systems they had been operating have been sold to Nextel, and are now off the air. I am now only aware of one 900 MHz system they operate, though I suspect they may have other systems in Ogden and Logan.

Most trunking systems covering Salt Lake Valley are located at sites on top of the Oquirrh Mountains, to the west. The TV and FM stations locate there as well. Coverage is generally to Tremonton in the north, and to Payson in the south. Coverage to the west varies, and due to the Wasatch Range, you lose the signal shortly after entering Parley'sCanyon, and you cannot get access from Park City.

This system, on the other hand, is located at the base of the Oquirrhs. The theory to provide stronger coverage to a smaller area. The low signal strengths I have observed on this system tend to confirm my doubts as to whether the idea works in practical operation.
