Information About Me:I have to thank Phil Westover, WA7URV, for getting me "into" Ham radio. He was my Scoutmaster for the 2001 National Jamboree, and as an Extra thought it would be cool if some of the Troop leaders were registered ham radio operators (as you all know 2 meter HT's beat out FRS radios anytime). I guess he was in for a surprise. About 1/4 of the troop became Ham radio operators:
Anyway, that is pretty awesome. I'm currently working on the morse code part of my General (I've already gotten the written part done). I hope that if you're in the United States, you might think about starting a Ham Radio Venture Crew. The Picture in above is me in my Venturing Class "A" Uniform with my 2m Alinco. Contact your local scouting service center for information about Venture Crew's, or visit my Outdoor Venture Crew's website at http://www.crew868.org. Currently, I only own an Alinco DJ-190T Handie Talkie Radio, but hopefully I will be able to purchase a used HF rig once I get code certified. I'd like to get a rig that is fairly light and can be taken backpacking. QRP CW, right? That's my ultimate dream, sitting on some remote mountain/hill top, sipping some hot apple cider and working a station a few thousand miles away. I'm really into the outdoors so working QRP on a backpacking or camping trip would just be perfect. Does anyone have ideas on a simple, light, good backpacking rig? 73, Taylor Dewey, KD7MRT |
