Okay, I'm the first to admit that this page is rather non-aesthetic.
BUT..... hey. I'm a Tech Class, and I got my license in March
of '99.
I'm operating on a Alinco DJ-S11T, with my base station being a pimped
out Realistic HTX-202.
The Alinco DJ-S11T doesn't come with a DTMF pad. Sooo.... I built one for it myself.
To build a DTMF pad:
1. Go to Radio Shack, and ask for a 'pocket tone dialer', you'll probably get laughed out of the store. I had to go to 4 of them before one said... "oooohh... yeah... we have one of those". Pocket tone dialers are devices that you can jam up against a cheap phone to dial, just in case it's rotary. The sound quality going from the cheap speaker in the tone dialer to the cheap mic in the DJ-S11T is bad enough that you can't get any work done.
2. Drill a hole in the back/top of the dialer.
Break a TI-8X link cable or a 3/32 headphone cable or anything that
will plug into your mic port on your radio. Break open the tone dialer.
The speaker is mounted to the back of the dialer. If you used a 3/32
headphone cable, solder the ground (the uninsulated wires) to one of the
contacts on the speaker. Then take either of the insulated ones and
solder it to the other terminal. Close up the dialer. When
you wish to use it, just plug it into the mic port, turn it on, dial, and
go!
