My Professional Information

The purpose of this web page is to show my professional interests.

My professional interests include teaching, real estate and income tax. I have a bachelor's degree in business administration. I began my professional career as an accountant and later I got involved in real estate. Currently, I am an elementary teacher at South Park Elementary. I have been at South Park for the past eight years. I teach the third grade there.

Accounting and business was my first love. I ran into a lot of obstacles in the corporate world. Being of the Black persuasion, I was not given many opportunities to excel in corporate America. I found very few Blacks and minorities to exist in the professional world of business. Most of the major CPA companies were predominantly white. It wasn't long before I began seeking other employment because of the institutional racism and lack of advancement in the field of public accounting.

I started a new career in real estate. I got my broker's license and began working for Century 21. Real estate is a nice profession to go into but you must be able to sell. Everything is done off of commissions. If sales are low then pay is low. I found that real estate wasn't for me at that time so I sought other employment.

My mother had been working for the LAUSD during the 80's. She talked me into taking the C-Best exam and I passed it. From there I went on to secure employment with the LAUSD. I found that working for the government you are afforded more job protection. The whims that you experience in corporate America are radically reduced. I believe many Blacks and minorities seek government employment for that reason. I've met many minorities who had come from corporate America to the LAUSD because of less stress and job pressure.

Teaching is a very fine career. It offers a lot of satisfaction in knowing that you are directly related to someone's success or failure. I get great satisfaction from knowing that children are benefitting from me. I've had students come back to me several years later and tell me how they benefitted from me. I've taught from grades two thru six.

As in anything there are setback even in the teaching profession. Many times, a community can be overwhelmed by the school simply because of lack of involvement. I know there are many reason why people are not able to participate in his or her childs education, but in today educational system, it is imperative to get involved some way. It may or may not make a difference but it is a start toward unity. It takes organization to effectively deal with an organization. Below, I have included some photos from my classroom. Enjoy them. I plan to update those with some others that may be more interesting to you.
