HAM Radio

My wife Diane (kd5mfd) and I (kd5mfe) were first liscensed in November of 2000. It took me a long time to "get around" to studying and taking a test (and indeed might not have happened except for a class sponsored by the Alcatel Amateur Radio Association) but we've been loving it ever since.

Currently we own two radios --- a Yaesu FT 2400 mobile rig I picked up used at Texas Towers, and a Yaesu VX-5R HT I bought new from HRO (this was actually our first radio). The FT 2400's mic was missing since the previous owner unfortunately chose to hack up the microphone cable for packet use instead of building a separate cable but a friend of mine took care of that on a trip to Dayton --- He found a very serviceable Yaesu MH-1 microphone with more buttons than I had wires coming out of the FT 2400 mic jack. A little study and solder later I had a good working 50W 2m transciever for $80 total cost :-) (Thanks Bob, Brian, and Texas Towers)
