The Control Operator of KD5FUL
A little background:
I am an active- Army soldier
stationed at Ft. Hood, Tx. I have a gorgeous wife of three years (sofar),
and
a LOVELY daughter of approximately the same
number of years as my marriage (people say She looks like Shirley Temple).
In the Army, I fix trucks, and tracked
vehicles, the most fun of which is the MLRS, or Multiple Launch Rocket
System (links to the army sites on it will be added later).
My current equipment is comprised of
an HTX- 202 Radio shack 2-meter rig (H/T), an HTX 404 70cm H/T, and an Alinco DR-110T mobile. I'm trying to get the old Pyramid 20 amp working to make me some power.
It seems my best friend (N2KHE- Ray) had a
little something up his sleeve... on Christmas morning, there was all the
great gifts one would usually expect to get (clothes, tools, etc...) and
a neato Christmas card... this had a note inside saying " Merry Christmas"
and a business card bearing evidence of two 2-meter radios paid for in
advance!
Needless to say, I went nuts! and as days
passed, I got more antsy as radio shack started to balk on their promise
to have these units in our hot hands ASAP... we began to lose what little
patience we had! Ray went in there while I was at work, and got one complete
rig with all the peripherals, and his, which had no charger, and no NiCd
pack.
I think it's safe to say that we just aren't
too pleased with radio shack at all, and I'll stick to used/ rebuilt/ kit
equipment only.
I can be found on a few frquencies here in Central Texas and on packet, as well (I run an old Heath HD-4040 TNC). The freq's for the repeaters can be found at : Temple Amateur Radio Club or www.TARC.org
I'm almost always monitoring Cove's as well as Temple's when
my schedule allows me to do so.
I'm also looking for any info on the Orbiting
repeaters, if anyone has frequency info, offsets, or tones, please drop
a line at the link below.
