The KD5FTA Family:

Walter, Patti and Mark Johnson

This site is to introduce myself and my hobbies to those who may be interested. Be sure to click on the links to learn more about this beautiful area of Oklahoma.

I am an amateur radio operator. I hold a tech level ticket earned in 1998, and I enjoy ham radio very much. My station consists of the Alinco DR-150TQ mobile 2m transceiver, and an ADI AR-447 70cm mobile transceiver both in use in my shack.  My antennas are a "home brew" J-pole and quad beam - both made by my friend, Kd5boy - Gerald in Inola, Ok. I also have an Icom 207H dual band mobile in my work vehicle.  I have an Alinco DJ-160 2m HT that I can use in emergencies, or mount in my bass boat.  The HT was acquired from N5xih - Tony also of Inola, Ok.  I have an old Turner +2 power desk microphone plugged into my SoundBlaster sound card on my computer, allowing me to use the ECHOLINK system to reach stations that would otherwise be outside of my range. I am very interested in ECHOLINK: a new program for licensed ham radio operators allowing them to link with each other and with various repeaters all over the world via the internet!! You can download the FREE program at: K1rfd's home page. Check it out today!!

I am also an enthusiastic fisherman. I go every chance I get, usually with one of my fishing friends, to Lake Tenkiller here in Northeastern Oklahoma.

My wife of more than 30 years, Patti (yes, I married her when she was only 3 years old) and I live in Tahlequah, the county seat of Cherokee County, and the National Headquarters for the Cherokee Nation.

We have one son, Mark who graduated in December of 2005 with a degree in Human Resources management from the school of business at  Northeastern State University, here in Tahlequah.   He is now employed at Cherokee Nation Industries in Stillwell, OK.  Mark is also a vital part of Participative Strategies, a consulting group based here in Tahlequah.  Meet Miss RiverWalk (Kathryn Cope).

We all attend Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Tahlequah.  (That's good teaching, Pastor Allen!)

I am now a semi-retired high school band instructor with 30 years experience.  I spent one year along side my best friend, Charles Surine teaching home school band in the Tulsa, OK area.  We both also enjoy playing the trombone in the Tulsa Community Band.  I still enjoy teaching,  (half-day only!) at Keys Schools on the north end of Lake Tenkiller.

73 and God Bless de Kd5fta (Walter Johnson)
