KC0CGF Alinco DJ-V5T Rating: 10/10
Best dual band HT for the money Time owned: unknown months
I picked up this DJ-V5T about 3 weeks ago. Easy to use, controls are easy to find. Great audio output. Good sensitivity and selectivity. No front end overload with a high gain HT antenna.
Great recieve coverage with modification. Split band xmit/recv makes it Mode J satellite usable. Compact and handy. Easy to program without the manual.
On the downside: If powered down while scanning, it does not resume scan when powered up. Legends are not printed on the keyboard buttons and are not visible when backlight is used.
Anybody want to buy an Icom IC-W32A
KC2DBJ Alinco DJ-G5TH Rate: 9/10
There are a lot of compact H-T S on the market that do wideband operation from 2 meters and up..The Alinco DJ-V5TH VHF/UHF H-T, is one of them. I am impressed
with the way this thing operates,"For example"...The V5TH can recieve frequencies from 76 to 999.99 Mhz.(cellular bolocked)..A Canadien version will include this feature unblocked for approximately $40 more
but this does'nt mean that you can lawfully eavesdrop on cell phone conversations..The V5TH is a one band at a time transciever unlike its big brother and top of the line DJ-G5TH which has a lot of featchers
built in execept wide band recieve..The V5-TH is an excellent MARS/CAP ready radio that can work on the lowest portion of the 70 cm to 470 Mhz. but a permit is required to work outside the alloted ham bands. The
V5-TH has 200 memory channels & an alphanumeric display to allow users to indcate what memory channels they are listening to. The only gripes that I have with this thing is why did Alinco leave out the built
in repeater capabilities that are found in its big brother, The dual crossband monitoring also afore mentioned is not found on this model but go from memory to VFO mode and sattilite work is very possible.
