Field Day Start Up
June 23rd 2007
My number one driver for the trip was my wife Rhoda. She
also inherited the camera for taking these pictures. Thanks to Rhoda for helping
me during this years Field Day, "turn right Rhoda, I said right, no not here
back there".
Stop number Four
Rowan County
City of Mt. Ulla,
North Carolina
Rowan Amateur Radio Society
Arrival Time: 4:00 p.m.
Busy, deep in the heart of Field Day. They
still had a bean or two on the ground but was making contacts. using dipole
antennas.
Talked with Janet (KI4CKS) and her husband Alton (KI4CKR). Janet brought me up
to date on what were the plans and activities for Field Day.
They plan on running as a 2A station with a GOTA, HF voice and CW. The
packet guru was not there he/she maybe there later up to set a packet station.
They had several key Club/ARES member out sick thus unable to attended today and
help with their Field Day set-up but Janet was please they were
on the air at 2 p.m. and equipment was up and running. Janet and Alton
frequently attends the Area-11 quarterly meetings that have been rotating from
county to county over the last years. Janet said their grill master
was Gary - KQ1E and said that Gary will have it up, cut and barbeque by 5:30 pm.
By the way Rowan county needs a good EC as Bob (KG4WAD) the former EC resigned
with health problems but we still lean on him from time to time.
His guidance helped everyone in Area-11. So if you know of anyone that
would make a good EC and has dedication to ham radio sit down and talk
with them about the opening. Ralph (WB4AQK) maybe a good person to
talk with or Mike (WA6KWW) the DEC FOR Area-11.
Left my NTS message with Janet to pass for me.
