Space Shuttle (SAREX):

If the Space Shuttle has SAREX on board, then there is a possibility of contact. However, SAREX is not a priority and there have been missions with no SAREX contacts. If it is in voice mode, listen for them Calling 'CQ'. Calling with out knowing the mode is very harmful to the other signals. Quite often the shuttle is talking with schools, and is not available for general Amateur contacts.

Downlink 145.84 FM

Equipment Required: FM Split mode.

Antennas:

Uplink: Any reasonable 2 meter antenna will work.

Downlink: Any reasonable 2 meter antenna will work.

Radio:

2 Meter FM transceiver with offset for transmission greater than 1 MHz.

Other:

The SAREX contacts are VERY short due to the number trying to contact. Typically the astronauts just confirm contact with a call sign. The competition to get contact makes it very difficult. Power is not the answer, patience and persistence works the best.
