Present Alert Status

The JFK Ultramarathon. is a 50 mile run.  This run is usually scheduled for the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving (November 20, 2004).  The run starts on Alternate Route 40 in Boonsboro, proceeds up Alternate 40 to the "Old South Mountain Inn" where the course turns on to the Appalachian Trail heading towards the C & O Canal and the Potomac River. At Weaverton, MD the run comes down from the top of the mountain and continues to follow the "Trail" to the C & O Canal. The run then proceeds for 23.7 miles to the Dam #4 access bridge, at which time the run transfers to the roads and proceeds to the Springfield Middle School in Williamsport, MD.

The amateurs provide support for the run from the beginning to the transition to the road at Dam #4.  From that point on REACT provides the needed support.  There is usually an amateur providing liaison between REACT and the officials.

There are two PDF files attached.

1.    Stations covered by the amateurs, estimated times and the volunteer for that position.

2.    JFK 50 Mile Run - Support Team Directions - this gives the directions to all of the locations for aid stations as well as where the amateurs are stationed.

The JFK is an unusual race and thus is a lot of fun to watch and or work. Come join us in this fun!   Check in on the 146.940 (-) repeater

Miles given are those used by the JFK Staff

1. We request that you  to identify your location  by the mileage since that is how the race officials identify the stations.

2. We ask that sensitive information (such as the nature of an injury or license plate numbers) be kept off the air. Please relay that kind of information directly to a race official only. Please request that mobile 2 or mobile 1 meet you to give them for information. It might be wise to write down such information so that its importance is emphasized and to help prevent a lapse of memory on anyone’s part.
