Field Day 2005

Blazing Radios Return to the Catoctin Mountains

It was back to the Greenbrier State Park west of Frederick, Maryland (see the FD 2002 report). It's a nice park; we took a few days off and camped & hiked around before the main event.

The Operation as KD3FG 1A MDC

As 1A MDC, we operated one transmitter at a time as a non-club group in the Maryland/DC section. We used our group name of Blazing Radios again due to our eating beans for dinner (and as a homage to a great movie scene).

We used an Icom 706 for SSB (voice) at about 50 watts and an Elecraft K2 on CW (Morse code) at about 10 watts. We operated voice throughout the day and switched to CW at night to keep the noise level down while others slept.

Our antennas this year were simply 80m and 20m dipoles.

How did we do?

       CW      SSB
80m    30       25
40m    53       52
20m             39
     =====    =====
       83      116    ===>  199 Total contacts

Pts: (166   +  116) * 2 (< 150W) ===>  564 QSO Points

Bonus Points:
100% Emergency Power (x1)    = 100   (x1 for one transmitter)
5 Solar powered QSOs         = 100
Set-up in public place       = 100
Attempt to obtain PR = 100
Field Day Message            = 100
                              -----
          Total Bonus Points = 500

So we're looking at 1064 claimed score.

Once again, we had a great time!
