Hi there! I was first licensed as a Novice in 1989 and the age of 17 years
old and was issued the call sign of KA1TYR. My first rig was an Icom 745 and the
only antenna I had at that time was a home-brew 40 meter dipole. Seven months later
I passed the 20 wpm code test! (This is an accomplishment that I am very proud of).
Ever since then I have been a CW hound sniffing for QSO's on HF. Upgrading to Technician
and then General in 1990, Advanced in 1993 and finally Extra in 1994.
My
QTH is Charles town, NH (population 4878) and the town rests along the Connecticut
River that separates New Hampshire.and Vermont. In 1735 the area was the most northern
New England outpost on the Connecticut River. Its 1744 log fort, called No. 4, was
a strategic military site throughout the French and Indian Wars. Several settlers
were ambushed and captured by the Indians, and the fort itself was besieged by an
attacking force of 400 in 1747. The town was later named for Admiral Sir Charles
Knowles by New Hampshire in 1753.
After 15 years I finally decided to sort
out those QSL cards and apply for the WAS award. I am now currently working towards
the 5 Band WAS award and of course chasing DX when the band are open.
Operating
conditions here is an Icom IC-725 with a G5RV for 80-10 meters and a vertical A99
for 10 and 15 meters. If we work on CW I use an old HeathKit HD-1410 electronic keyer.
All QSL cards are welcome direct or via the bureau.
