Your First Radio

This is a topic I will not get into to much, as there is great debate out there on this. (What’s the better brand, should I get a HT first or not, and so on)

I will however say the following.  When picking your first radio, consider this......

What your license will allow you to operate (bands, power, etc)

What you want to do (DX, QRP, repeaters only, Packet)

Where you want to talk (local or across seas)

Your budget.

Based on these you should be able to find a radio that will get you what you want, being the ability to talk across town, state, country, planet, or universe.

Plus many ham radio stores or hamfests have displays sat up and you can try before you buy.
