Nikola
experimented with resonant circuits at great voltages. He believed that they could carry
power, without loss, to great distances, negating the need for power transmission wire.
Ok: He was wrong about the losses, but he suggested that possibility because he believed
that because the earth itself could be made to resonant at some frequency, and at that frequency electrical loss would be
minimal. How close he was! Submarine communications now DO take place at sub-multiples of
the earth's natural resonant frequency because it IS less lossy. He also experimented with
the awesome power of mechanical resonances, nearly shaking apart a building from a device
attached to a basement beam. He stopped the experiment and destroyed the
auto-resonance-finding device, fearing it would be used for war purposes. Nikola Tesla's
had not only a very inventive but an imaginative mind. He wanted to contact the Martians
using his huge "Tesla" coils crackling with deadly man-made lightning sending
signals through the ether. He invented, or should I dare say, was the first to even THINK
of the concept of the ROBOT. He built a semi-submerged "Telautomaton" boat
complete with reception aerials in the mid 1890's! ( Perhaps it is Nikola Tesla who helped
the public become aware that our future and other worlds may NOW be full of
"Telautomatons" that made H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds a frightening
possibility. )
