2 /10 meter net suggested guidelines

This is a guideline for the nets...not etched in stone but something to work with.  I am sending this out in case of the rare time in which Richard is not available and Phyllis cannot do it.  Jerry usually does Audio News, enough weekly participation in my book. I Hope this helps...believe it or not, it is  a lot of fun and hearing different voices are nice.

May I remind all members that running either a 2 or 10 meter net can be used for credit towards a "radio-active" badge.
It is important, as Rob suggests, that the same people NOT run the net all the time. New blood, preferably warm, should pop in there now and then to keep things lively and different. We want to keep even those listening with scanners from touching that dial! I thank Rob for assembling the guidelines below, making it a snap to run the nets. Print the text below and carry it with you. You never know when you may be called to "active duty".

Weekly 2 M and 10 M Net Preambles

10 M - CQ,CQ,CQ 10 Meters (Call CQ several times- if needed ask another station to call CQ as well.)

Good Evening, this is (your name and call), your net control operator this evening for the Kings County Radio Club, W2RAK, weekly (2 or 10 meter net).

(Throughout the net, ID your station several times, mentioning the name of the net and the Club call - W2RAK.)

10 M - This net meets every Monday evening at 9:00 p.m., on or about 28.380 MHz.

2 M - This net meets every Tuesday evening at 9:00 p.m. on the KW2V repeater on 146.730 MHz with an input of 146.130 and a PL tone of 88.5 Hz. If for some reason you are not able to open the repeater but can hear my signal on the input frequency, try to check in directly on the output frequency.

The net is open to both members and non-members of the Kings County Radio Club. All licensed operators are welcome to check in, show their support and participate in the net. It is nice to know where our signals are reaching.

I will now take check-ins for the net. Please check in with your call sign and name. If you are new to the net, please give your location as well.

(Make a list and acknowledge the check-ins so all know that they have been heard. Ask a few times for additional check-ins. Throughout the net, ask for any late check-ins.)

I will now open the net for any old or new business. If you have any old or new business for the net, please call now. (Ask again before moving on to the next net topic.)

I will now open the net for any questions or comments of a technical nature. These may consist of amateur radio or related subjects such as computers. If you have a piece of equipment that is worth telling others about, or that you may wish to learn more about, now is a great time to mention it. If you have any questions or comments, please call now. (Ask again before moving on to the next net topic).

Would anyone wish to give a DX report?

I will now open the net for Swap -n- Shop. This includes items or wants that you may wish to buy or sell than are amateur radio related. If you have anything for Swap -n- Shop, please call now. (Ask again before moving on to the next topic).

Are there any announcements for the net? (This would include any upcoming contests, hamfests, computer shows, etc.) (Ask again before moving on to the next topic.)

At this point I would like to open up the net for any topics of interest, discussion and general rag-chewing. This is an opportunity to communicate anything of interest with the participants of the net. (As net control, you may prepare ahead and bring up a topic that may be worthy of discussion. You need to look no further than your QST magazine or other ham publications in many cases.)

(Take a final call for any business, announcements and late check-ins once you feel that the net has simmered down.)

I will now officially close this evening’s net. I wish to thank the following stations who checked in this evening. (Read off the list of check-ins.)

Don’t forget that the Kings County Radio Club’s W2RAK 10 Meter net meets every Monday evening at 9:00 p.m. on or about 28.380 MHz and the 2 Meter net meets every Tuesday evening at 9:00 p.m. on the KW2V repeater on 146.730 MHz.

10 M - This is (your name and call) wishing you 73. (Your call) out!

2 M - On behalf of the Kings County Radio Club, I wish to thank Bob KW2V for the generous use of his repeater. I will now return the repeater to casual use. This is (your name and call)wishing you 73. (Your call) The repeater is now returned to normal, casual use.
