The KCARC .76 Repeater Information

The KC5OLO repeater on 146.760/146.160 MHz is a GE Mastr II with Wacom duplexers and 35 amp Astron power supply. The controller is a CAT-1000.

It is located on the north side of Abilene near I-20 with the antenna being a Decibel Products fiberglass antenna almost to the 375 ft.level on the tower. This gives a height above average terrain of around 500 feet.

The repeater radio puts out 20 watts and has about a 40 mile range with a 50 watt mobile or about 5-10 miles with an HT and rubber duck. There is a deep-cycle marine battery for emergency power capability.

The repeater encodes a CTCSS tone of 146.2 Hz and requires a 146.2 Hz tone to access it. The repeater is open with a closed phone patch, except for 911 calls. The autopatch code is not given out over the air, but a club member may assist visitors by dialing a patch for them.

This is the primary repeater for all SKYWARN and RACES Nets in the Abilene area.




The KCARC .96 Repeater Information

The KC5OLO ABI repeater on 146.960/146.360 MHz is a Yaesu repeater with Wacom duplexers and an internal 12 volt power supply. The controller is Yaesu.

It is located 10 miles south of Abilene near Hwy 83/84 on "Cedar Gap Mountain" with the antenna being a Decibel Products DB-224 antenna array almost to the 300 ft. level on an FM broadcast station's tower. This gives a height above average terrain of around 650 feet.

The repeater radio puts out 10 watts and has about a 45 mile range with a 50 watt mobile or about 5-10 miles with an HT and rubber duck. There is a deep-cycle marine battery for emergency power capability.

The repeater encodes and requires a CTCSS tone of 146.2 Hz. This repeater does not have phone patch capabilities.




The KCARC 146.74 Haskell Repeater Information

The WA5YSZ repeater on 146.740/146.140 MHz is a Micro Control Specialties Mark 3C amateur radio service unit, formerly used for the 146.76 repeater in Abilene, with Wacom duplexers and an internal power supply.

It is located on top of the courthouse in Haskell, near Hwy 277, with the antenna mounted on the courthouse roof. This gives a height above average terrain of around 100 feet.

The repeater radio puts out 10 watts and has about a 25 mile range with a 50 watt mobile or about 5-10 miles with an HT and rubber duck.

This repeater does not encode or decode a CTCSS tone, but is capable of having phone patch access.

Repeater Information ...just a reminder,

Please don't "kerchunk" the repeaters. When using the patch, give your call and say that you want to use the patch before you try. This way, in case there is a net or an ongoing conversation, someone can break in. Remember that your conversation on the phone is over the air. You may have to tell the person on the phone to conduct themselves accordingly. Don't use the patch for frivolous uses like idle chit chat. Always give your callsign when you are finished with the patch or with a conversation. Listen to the repeater to see if there is a conversation or net before you get on the repeater.
