Here is more information on the upcoming General class: Space Place Amateur Radio Center (N9UW) Villager Mall 2300 South Park Street Madison, WI 53713 Amateur Radio General Class Workshop-- May 24 & 25, 2008 You need, of course, a Technician license as a pre-requisite to obtain this license. May attend the class, however, without having any license. Here is a weekend workshop to help you upgrade your Technician Class ham radio license to General Class. Earn new privileges that will enable you to explore all the ham bands, try out new modes, and get into worldwide communications. A license examination session on Sunday afternoon concludes the workshop, so can upgrade your license to General Class in only two days. Note that the FCC has dropped the requirement for Morse Code. Pass the written element and you will have your General license! The workshop is free-even refreshments are provided! (There is, however, an exam fee of $14.00 to cover administrative costs.) To prepare you must get a copy of the ARRL General Class License Manual (6th edition, $24.95), which is available via web or mail order from the American Radio Relay League: www.arrl.org/catalog. (Check the ARRL web site for lots of information about ham radio.) You will receive suggestions for studying after you register. AES in Milwaukee sells the book, also. www.aesham.com. Go to http://spaceplace.wisc.edu/radio.shtml for additional information. Please tell us your age if you are a high school student or younger. Register soon! Email Don Michalski at w9ixg@arrl.org or call 608-274-1886. All amateurs and those interested in ham radio are welcome at club meetings and events. The Hidden Valleys Amateur Radio Club is a small friendly club located in the hills and valleys of southwestern Wisconsin. Our members participate in Field Day, Wisconsin QSO parties, local community service activities, and also offer ham licensing classes. Many of us are trained storm spotters, some have CPR, and a few have multiple Red Cross certifications. Our club meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Alliant Energy building on the north edge of Mineral Point, Wisconsin. We have a weekly Sunday night net meeting at 7:30 PM on the Hollandale repeater (146.655-tone 123.0). All checkins are welcom. If you want to improve your CW skills, you can download the Morse Runner practice program and run it on your PC. We wish to thank Al Waller and the QSL.NET Inc. for the server space on which this web site is hosted. | ||||||||||||||||||||
