May 2004
The May meeting of the Sheboygan County Amateur Radio Club was called to
order by President Bob, K9XB, at 7pm local time. There where 10 members and
3 guests present at the meeting. The SCARC meets every second Tuesday of
the month at the Red Cross building, 2032 Erie Ave.
OLD BUSINESS
April 17th was the spring SCARC Brat fry held at Piggly Wiggly North side.
We had 12 members and several spouses' volunteer throughout the day, which
by the way was a success. Over $250 was added to the Club treasurery.
Weather conditions where excellent this year which helped with the turn out
of volunteers. Changes to the menu will be discussed before the fall Fry,
which is October 16th at Piggly Wiggly South, hope to see you there.
April 25th was the MS-Walk. 8 hams spent their morning working at several
of the rest stations throughout the 7K walk. This year the WX again was
questionable with rain and wind, but for a change the temps where in the
60's. Several new hams where involved and everyone was home by 1pm. Thanks
for all those who where involved, see you next year.
Crystals for the "fox" have been purchased and final construction is being
done. Board meetings later this summer will finalize the first fox hunt to
introduce the event to any new "hunters".
Remember that there are no membership meeting during the months of June,
July, and August.
Dues are due, to remain eligible for the attendance raffles and other
drawings, you must be current with membership dues.
NEW BUSINESS
Upon recomdadation of the Executive Board, there will be an increase in
membership dues beginning next month for the 2004-2005 membership year. New
rates are as follows: single membership $25, family membership $35, and
students and 1st year licensed hams $15. This was brought to a vote at the
meeting and was successfully passed.
Repeater controller has gone on the "critical list" as was noted about a
month ago when there was a "brown" out in the Plymouth area. The voltage
"swing" was too fast for auxiliary power switch over, yet long enough to
cause problems with controller commands. Many of the DTMF commands did not
work and a trip to the repeater site was needed to return 147.06 to "normal"
operation. The controller is over 25 years old has survived several site
moves and many "near" lightening strikes. An appeal has been made for
donations to go specifically toward the controller fund. Remember that
donations to the SCARC are tax deductible, and consider just how much each
of us use the machine, it would be a shame to have it off the air for an
extended amount of time.
Elections for the up coming year where held. Executive Board is as follows:
President Bob K9XB, VP Neil KR9F, Secretary Jeff KB9VSA, and Treasurer Linda
KC9DLO. Completing the Board are: Phil WA9FWT, John AB9HH, Lyle WE9R, Mike
KD9TZ, and Dick KC9DDS. The new officers will be installed at a short
meeting during Field Day weekend.
Field Day site is again secured at the Taylor Park site. Thanks to Lee
N9YLS, for taking the time to make the reservation. Look for a cook out
again on Saturday night. We are all hoping for a weekend of no rain, no
lightening, and no mosquitoes. Hope to see you there to try a little
operating in the field.
Attendance winner was Chris, KB9UCO, but she was not present. 50/50 winner
was Steve, AA9SJ.
A Radio Shack SWR meter was found in the Club inventories, so it was raffled
off at the meeting. Arlyn, KC9FYA, was the winner. What a way to start her
HF station. By the way Arlyn is a new licensed ham in the Plymouth area, if
you hear her on the air be sure to say "hello".
Meeting adjourned at 815pm.
