October 7, 2006 - Annual nationwide Simulated Emergency Test (SET, sponsored by ARRL). The county exercise was based on a KC-10 aircraft tanker crash in west-central Allegan county that in turn started a large wildfire. After one hour, all repeaters became inoperable for the duration of the event as a test of simplex capabilities within the county and between adjoining counties. The county event was sanctioned as a formal RACES drill to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

ARES, RACES, and CERT folks worked together to implement the new county personnel accountability system. We gained a fair number of additional points for SET by contacting neighboring counties "on the side."
