I recevied my General ticket in November, 2001, but did not get on the air until early in 2002 when I bought my first piece of equipment from my Elmer, Scott (AB8KN). I have been becoming active on 2M, listening more than talking for now, on the Columbus area repeaters.

At Dayton Hamvention this year, I purchased my first HF rig.  I was looking for something I could take camping, packing, or possibly on a missions trip.  In the flea market I found a Uniden HR2600, 10M all-mode, 25W mobile, bulky, but not TOO heavy for a backpack.  I added a 12V gel-cel to power it, and added a Maldol AH-28 telescoping antenna. Finally, I am on the air with HF.  Now if I can just get the RF problems with the laptop worked out, I can try some PSK31! (Bloody solar flares, I understand now why 10M can also be a frustrating band)

I am currently seeking local contacts in the Columbus, Ohio Area (esp. Westerville) to help me make DX contact during a mission trip I am going on to Honduras June 29-July 6, 2002.  I will welcome any DX I can make, but would like to find a couple contacts to schedule who can relay messages to our home church in Westerville. Contains a simple transmitter I am planning to attempt. (someday)

Guess I need a receiver, too... Small and simple is good...
