I have been
monitoring and fixing radios since the age of eleven. My
dedication to radio theory and electronics started with my
grandfather. While visiting, I was exposed to many forms of test
equipment, tubes, crystals, scanners, TVs, and radios. I
couldnt help but wonder how they all worked, which inspired me
to learn more about them. Since then, I have enjoyed the benefits of
studying electronics, computers, networking and radio theory.
My first real experience of theory was while attending high
school. I became involved with the Lapeer County Vocational
Technical School and working at the local Radio Shack in Lapeer
with two amateurs Mike KB8ENC and Mike KB8TXL. I was able to get a head
start on learning the theory and fundamentals of computers,
electronics, and radio. My continuous outstanding performance,
attendance, and ability amazed my instructors Stu Glenn and John
Basis. They stated many times that I was following the footsteps
of my grandfather, who owned and operated his own radio and
television repair shop in Imlay City.
After completing the two-year course at the vocational school,
I attended ITT Technical Institute to further my education. I
graduated with honors and moved up in the company I have been with
since graduating high school. I have been lucky enough to make a
career out of my interests and fulfill my childhood dreams of
becoming an electronics technician. The electronics field is
exciting and rewarding to me.
My interests also include analog and digital circuits,
computers, and networking. I also enjoy participating in SkyWarn,
A.R.E.S. (Amateur Radio Emergency Service), R.A.C.E.S. (Radio
Amateur Civil Emergency Service), A.R.P.S.C. (Amateur Radio Public
Service Corps), and monthly club meetings in Lapeer, Oakland, and
Macomb Counties. Im also a member of the American Radio Relay
League.
Meeting new people and placing a face on those I meet over the
airwaves is very exciting. It always comes with great pride when
meeting a fellow amateur. We all have similar interests and learn
from one another. I find there is no better hobby, that has
greater fellowship and determination, then amateur radio. Im
very proud to be one of over 700,000 amateurs in our great
country. 73 KC8PNN
