=============================================================================== D.A.R.E.N. NEWS of WV. April 2, 2000 (.403) by Ken Harris WA8LLM (304) 679-3470 (HOME) or 428-9980 (WORK) WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS, P.O. BOX 3328, PARKERSBURG, WV 26103
D.A.R.E.N. News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 mHz. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN NET Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.
The Mineral County NODE/PBBS, MINEWV/KEYSWV went back on the air. Bub, W8OO sent me a message stating that Butch and Clay went to the Mineral County site on Pinnacle Mountain to work on an antenna fix. They installed a J-Pole antenna on the tower until further repairs can be made. He's able to connect to it from Piedmont. I just got the word that the Jackson County Amateur Radio Club is going to be holding their 21st Annual Hamfest. The Hamfest will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2000. More information will be announced later. John, K8ZPR called me on the telephone last night to let me know he wasn't able to get from the Northern Panhandle to get checked into the State Wide DAREN Net. I noticed on the net list there were several stations that were having problems getting checked in and getting disconnected. It looks like the band was down again, a good sign of changing weather, for the better I hope.
Don't forget to not only set your clocks ahead for Daylight Saving Time, but be sure to set the clock in you TNC, especially if your the SYSOP of a NODE/PBBS that is used on the DAREN System. You want to make sure that any messages that are posted on the PBBS have the right Date and Time Stamp on them. By remotely connecting into your TNC, and then giving a "RESET" command when through gives your TNC a chance to clean out some of the strange things that happen to them from time to time.
There were 79 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. Delmas, N8JYS who's been checking into the net since January 14, 1995 has completed 250 check-ins. Georgia, N3TGL who's been checking into the net since April 22, 1995 has completed 200 check-ins. Benjamin, N8XXA who been checking into the net since November 27, 1993 has completed 150 check-ins. And Anna, KC8JWW and Mike, KC8JRW who's been checking into the net since May 9, 1998 have completed 100 check-ins each. All of these operators will soon be receiving their certificates. Bud, WA8FFG needs only one more check-into make 200. And Jerry, KC8HUP needs only one more check-in to 50. There was a "NOCALL" that checked into the net last night. If you don't see your call on next week's DAREN net announcement, it might be yours. Let me know so that I can correct your records. There were a couple of callsigns that checked in that I didn't put on the list, they were "UB2DUM" and "AP1FUL". It looks like some one was just FOOLING around. Thanks for checking in everyone.
