DAREN NEWS (00-02-20)
=============================================================================== D.A.R.E.N. NEWS of WV. February 20, 2000 (.397) by Ken Harris WA8LLM (304) 679-3470 (HOME) or 428-9980 (WORK) WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS, P.O. BOX 3328, PARKERSBURG, WV 26103 D.A.R.E.N. News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 mHz. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN NET Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.
And now to continue with the information from Juddie, KC8CON. At the Plateau Hamfest there will be VE Testing which will start at 10 AM with registration at 9 AM. The Hamfest opens at 9 AM with dealers and vendors (or flea marketeers) being allowed to setup between 5:30 AM and 9 AM. The general public will be allowed in at 9 AM. There will be a concession open for food and drinks ran by the Raleigh County Armory/Civic Center personnel. Juddie has also thought about dropping the PARC Packet Net that he operates on Thursday evenings on 145.09 mHz, but has decided to keep it going as long as he keeps getting people to check in. He wants to apologize to everyone that has been checking in but hasn't received a certificate. He says he's hasn't had the time to sit down and do the math and make the certificates. He will continue the net, but won't continue the certificates. He may try and get everyone a certificate that has checked in to the net up to the first of the year and make that the cut off. The Plateau Amateur Radio Association has moved to a new meeting location. The club used to meet at the Knights of Pythias building on 328 Main Street in Oak Hill, WV, but they have out grown the small basement of the building. They are now meeting at the WV Division of Environmental Protection Office at 116 Industrial Drive, Oak Hill, WV. The building has a very large conference room that will accommodate about 60 people. The building has a TV and VCR that can be used for meetings. They have had SKYWARN classes there and they held their first ham radio class there for those who wanted to get their technician license.
Oops, I posted the wrong February 5th State Wide DAREN Net with this week's net announcement. In the midst of getting the records straight, I grabbed the wrong check-in list and posted it as the corrected one. Jim, K8AUS caught the mistake. I'm going to try one more time to post the correct list with next week's net announcement. The check-in records are correct, I just posted the wrong list. Thanks Jim.
If everyone didn't get the flyer for the Charleston Hamfest & Computer Show, here's the information. The show will be held Saturday, March 18, 2000 from 9am to 3pm. It will be held at the Coonskin Armory 1707 Coonskin Drive. Directions to the Armory are: take Exit 99, Greenbrier St, off I-64/I-77, towards Yeager Airport, Veer right, past airport turnoff, Go to stoplight at Go-Mart and turn left onto Coonskin Drive. Armory is about 3/4 mile on left just before entrance to Coonskin Park. Additional information from: Charleston Area Hamfest, PO Box 916, St. Albans, WV 25177 or E-Mail: crwhamfest@juno.com.
There were 66 check-ins to this week's DAREN Net. Tom KA8HAP, who's been checking into the net since December 31, 1994 has completed 200 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate. Charles, KC8WO needs only one more check-in to make 250. Anna, KC8JLK needs only one more check-in to make 100. I want to welcome a newcomer to the DAREN system and that is Charles, KB8YIT.
