D.A.R.E.N. NEWS of WV. February 6, 2000 (.395) by Ken Harris WA8LLM (304) 679-3470 (HOME) or 428-9980 (WORK) WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS, P.O. BOX 3328, PARKERSBURG, WV 26103 D.A.R.E.N. News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 mHz. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN NET Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.
I didn't receive any messages or other information for this week's DAREN News, but I do have a couple of Amateur Radio test sessions to announce. Jim, K8AUS would like to announce the MARC (Mountain Amateur Radio Club) will be holding VE Exams this coming Saturday, February 12th, starting at 9:00 am. Pre-registration is at 8.30 am. The Exams are FREE and are held at the Cumberland OES Building on Dorn Ave. Cumberland, Md. Anyone with any questions can call Jim Smith, K8AUS on the Keyser repeater of 147.39 mHz, or by phone at (304) 298-4278. There will also be W5YI testing this coming Saturday, February 12th, at Parkersburg at 6:30 pm, with registration starting at 6:00 pm. The exams will be given at the Eastwood Fire Station on Route 47, four and one half miles East of I-77, Exit 174. Dana WV8G will be the test administrator and can be reached at (304) 422-1823.
I've been checking into another Packet Net that is held on Monday evenings. The net is in conjunction with the Tyler County Amateur Radio Net held on the 147.36 mHz repeater. The Packet net operates on 145.01 mHz. Work your way to the NODE "TYLER" and then connect to "NET". Both the voice net and the Packet net start at 7:00 pm. The Jackson County Amateur Radio Club no longer holds a Packet net on 145.09 mHz, which used to be held at the same time as their Two Meter Net starting at 7:00 pm. Maybe sometime in the future they may start the Packet net back up again.
There were 73 check-ins to this week's DAREN Net. Dean, N8OLT who's been checking into the net since April 2, 1994 has completed 150 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.
