AARĜCZ
US Army Military Affiliate
Radio System (MARS)
I have been an active member of the US Army MARS group for
almost two years, receiving my permanent MARS call sign on 10 May 1999.
I have taken and passed the Army MARS Basic Training Course and
was NCS (Net Control Station) for an Oregon Army MARS net on weekday evenings
and ANCS for the State MARS Directors net on several occasions.
As a member of US Army MARS I have a responsibility to help
other agencies in times of emergency which I do through my connection to the
American Red Cross, ARES, RACES and ACS.
By being a MARS station I have authorized use of frequencies
outside the normal amateur radio bands that allow for direct contact to other
governmental agencies both civilian and military.
As a MARS operator I was instrumental in the setting up and
maintenance of the AARĜCAB station at
the Rogue Valley Chapter of the
American Red Cross in Medford, Oregon. This station is used to provide back-up
communications both local and long range for this chapter in times of disaster.
