    What are the exams like?

Each of the written exams (Technician, General, and Extra) are multiple choice exams. The Technician and General exams are 35 questions, so you need to get 26 correct to pass. The Extra exam is 50 questions, you will need to get 37 correct to pass.

NOTE: As of February 23, 2007, a Morse Code exam is no longer required to become an Amateur Radio Operator.

What to bring to an exam session?

    - Two forms of ID, one with a picture.

    - A pen and a pencil with an eraser.

    - A non-programmable calculator.

    - A photocopy of your license and the original (if applicable).

    - A Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE) for which you want credit, you should have a photocopy and the original (if applicable).

    How much does it cost?

The VE examination fee is $14.00 and will be collected before you take your examination. Once you've paid the fee for an exam session, there is no extra cost to take another exam, so I'd suggest you keep taking the next, more advanced, test until you fail.
