Transmitting from Iraq.

Closest known MARS Station to a worlds most famous Spider hole!

The cabinet was specially designed for the radio Station, and had built by me and my friend SSG Hage.  Holes and cutouts in the shelves allowed for wires to go through the cabinet without hindering operation of the doors.  A vehicle battery with a trickle charger was in the base of the cabinet.  I used Pacterm 98 for my digital mode software.  It worked well to cut and past messages between digital mode and other windows applications!  The equipment and support equipment will fit into two foot lockers.  Postal restrictions required I mailed it in three foot lockers.

Radio Kenwood TS 430S Thanks to Tommy Taylor WD9HMB.
Digital Modem Kamtronix XL (Note: This Modem was never owned by N5TD)
Antenna Tuner A rare MFJ Versa Tuner II, MFJ-941D
Dummy Load MFJ  (WD9 Has No Blond that's drunk)

The Antenna is a Barker & Williamson  (Broadband Folded Dipole BWD-90).  It is 90 foot long.  It gave me outstandingly low SWRs on all MARS Frequencies.  Including frequencies in the 5 MHZ range.  As you see it was well guarded. Also like to draw your attention to the ends.  I used springs that I requisition keep even tension on the wire, and be able to withstand wind gust!  You can find this and other antennas by Barker & Williamson at http://www.bwantennas.com/ama/fdipole.ama.htm .

I would like to thank the following.

"Visit the website below and take a look into one of the MARS stations at Camp Speicher, Tikrit, Iraq (AEM3AI), modest in size but effective.  He
has also had regular successful connection to the digital pactor port of the MARS Message Center System (MMCS) that is located at the European MARS Gateway station (AEM1USA) on frequency KDG.  It is very impressive that he is able to connect to the MMCS on such a low frequency over such a great distance. "

Quote from Mr. Daniel Wolff

Mr. Daniel Wolff Daniel Wolff  (AEM1AM / AEM1WFAssistant Affiliate MARS Coordinator, Europe), for his assistance.  He has been a great source of support and encouragement every time I been deployed!

Mr. Ronal A. Tomo KE2UK and MARS: AAT2BC with BILLET AAM2NY & SYSOP for AT2TFC for his assistance with setting up my digital modem.

Tommy Taylor. WD9HNB for his assistance in assembling the equipment for this station!

The Command and Non-Commissioned Officer support Chain of the 180th Transportation Battalion for allowing me to operate the station.
