What is Ham radio? Amateur (Ham) radio is a hobby enjoyed by many people of all backgrounds in just about every country in the world. It is about communicating via radio with others all over the world using many different modes. From Morse Code to computers, handheld radios to satellites, and everything in between, there is something to interest virtually anyone.
I became interested in radio scanning when I began my career in EMS. Then in 1994, a good friend and partner on the ambulance introduced me to Ham radio. Through his answering my many questions and guiding me through the study material, I got my license in Jan. 1995.
I am not as active in Ham radio as many in the hobby are. My interest level in it comes and goes, but I really have enjoyed it and hope to upgrade soon and try the HF bands.
I am interested in Skywarn and ARES, which is Ham's assisting in storm tracking and reporting. See the links below.
I have been licensed since 1995, I currently hold the General Class Amateur Radio license. I am studying for my Amateur Extra and the General Radiotelephone Operators License just as a personal challenge to myself. I have been on 2 meters, 440 mhz and 1.2 Gig at one time or another. Right now I am on 2 meters FM and 440 MHZ FM, I will be active on 10 meters in the very near future. I live in Johnson County, Texas and monitor the Johnson County Repeater on 145.490 pl 88.5 and 444.125 pl 88.5, the Hillsboro Repeater at 146.780 and 146.52 simplex. If you are in the Cleburne or Grandview area, or driving down Interstate 35 W between Fort Worth and Hillsboro, give me a call, I'd love the QSO.
