(Before running a net for the first time, please read over the complete document. Further instructions are below.)

 

A)   [5 minutes before net.] Are there any stations that need to use the frequency? Net begins in five minutes. This is ______ (your callsign), Clear.

 

1)   This is ______ (your callsign), net control station for the Jefferson County ARES and RACES training net. This net operates on this frequency by the authority of the Federal Communications Commission, the American Radio Relay League, and the Jefferson County Office of Fire and Emergency management. This is a directed net, which means please do not transmit unless directed to do so by net control. All licensed amateurs are encouraged to participate, although those stations not wishing to take part in this exercise are respectfully asked to stand by. This net has been alerted for the purpose of training. Are there any stations with emergency traffic? If so please come now with your call sign. <Break>

 

2)   Not hearing any, do I have a volunteer for alternate net control station? <Break>

 

3)   I recognize _________ as alternate net control. Thank you for checking in tonight. We will now take check in’s to the net by priority. Any stations holding traffic or announcements indicate number of items to pass. State ‘This is’, followed by a short break in transmission, then your call sign, name and current location. Stations that do not feel they will be available for the entire net, please ask for ‘short time’ and call Net Control when securing from net.

4a)   All liaison stations. Such as representatives from Oswego, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties, Skywarn, and the Jefferson County Radio Amateur Club or any other organization.  Please come now with your call sign. <Break>

 

4b)   All mobile or portable stations please come now with your call sign. <Break>

 

4c)   All fixed stations please come now with your call sign. <Break>

      (All NCS must pass a net report of their operations to the NCM in the form of NTS traffic during the next net possible. - Include in the report: # of check-in’s, # of pieces of traffic passed, starting time, ending time, duration of net, and call sign of ALT NCS if any. Do not report announcements as traffic.)

 

7)   [Training] [The exercise is conducted here. State the scenario or subject for call up.]

 

8)   [Questions and Comments] [Recall all roster stations in order. Mobile and portable stations first.]

 

9)  This session of the Jefferson County ARES and RACES training net has now concluded. I would like to thank the trustees of this repeater for its use. This net is held every Wednesday evening at 7pm/1900hrs local time on 147.255, positive offset. Simplex operations will commence on this frequency in the event of a repeater outage. Questions or comments should be forwarded to the Jefferson county RO, C. Instructions to the NCS

 

Use this statement when identifying as NCS:

    ·      “This is ______ (your callsign), net control station for the Jefferson County ARES and RACES (training) net.”

    ·      All time is given in 24hr format. 7pm = 1900hrs, 8pm = 2000hrs.

The goals of the forthcoming nets and drills will be to:

    ·  Train each individual participant so that every member will be capable of assuming any role within the organization.

    ·  Build and ready a team that will respond to chaos, calmly and professionally.

    ·  Establish a functioning network of communication equipment and operators, pubic and private, capable of supporting the whole of Jefferson County and our neighbors beyond.

    ·  All this is to prepare for what we hope to prevent.
