KCØAM Ham Radio Page
WAS WAC DXCC ROWH
Various
items of interest or potential interest to radio-heads.
Some of the stuff is directly related to radio, some related to solar-terrestrial topics (affecting propagation, etc).
NETS: These are nets that I have been active with from time to time, schedule and logistics permitting:
Mercury Amateur Radio Association (MARA)
The Mercury Amateur Radio
Association, is an international organization to foster goodwill and to provide
communications in time of emergency. It is mostly composed of members and
friends of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints though not an official organization of the Church.
3905 Century Club
The 3905 Century Club is a
non-profit corporation registered in Florida. It's purpose is to assist hams,
both foreign and US, in obtaining Worked all States awards. It operates nets on
40, 80 and 160 meters. It has CW, SSB and RTTY nets. In addition the club
offers many certificates for contacts made on its nets.
Ten-Ten International
Ten-Ten International Net,
or 10-10 for short, is an organization of amateur radio operators dedicated to
maintaining high levels of amateur radio communications on the 10-meter amateur
band (28.0-29.7 MHz).
TECHNICAL
REFERENCES: I know that
there's a LOT more stuff out there than these. These sights show a bias
towards solar-terrestrial physics and propagation, which is a particular
interest to me. If you know of some good sites with antenna stuff and
other projects, pass them along if the spirit
moves you.
Space Weather
I know, this sounds sort of
wierd, but remember, the earth doesn't just hang out in space in solitary
splendor!
Solar-Terrestrial Dispatch
This one is out of the
University of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. It has a REALLY complete guide
to changes of the earth's space environment, auroral occurrences, propagation
conditions and forecasts, etc., much of which is available via free internet
newsletters. If you are concerned with propagation, and if you're using
HF, VHF, UHF, or microwave you should be, this is worth a look. They have
some VERY impressive sets of software, which I haven't bought yet due to the
cost. (Hey, I need a tower and beam first!)
Earth-Sun Connection
This one is tied in with
NASA. Emphasis on Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) events, solar flares, and
their effect on the earth's geomagnetic conditions.
Solar and Heliospheric Observatory
This sight is dedicated to
the above named satellite, and it's observations. A really great source
of info on current solar behavior. This bird had been off-line and out of
contact, but recently control has been re-acquired, and most of the important
sensor packages have restored to operation. Satellite re-alignment will
soon restore the proper solar imaging polar alignment.
Solar Data Analysis Center (SDAC)
Located at Goddard
Spaceflight Center, Greenbelt, MS. NASA operation, lots of solar physics
info.
Natural VLF Radio
A very intresting
phenomenon, well introduced on this page by N6NKS.
NOTE: Antenna web sites wanted! Please e-mail any that seem good to you.
OPERATIONAL LINKS: Miscellaneous links
of potential utility and/or interest to an active amateur station operator.
DXCC List
After having been inactive
on HF for several years, this is a real help to me, what with all the new
countries and call signs in the last few years.
Ham Radio Shareware
A collection of various
types of software for ham radio.
WWW SWL Guide
A pretty good guide for
SWL'ing when you're in the mood to stop talking and just listen.
NIST Time (WWV's home on
line!)
Is it that time yet?
Also a lot of other interesting esoteric technical information. This site
has freeware available that will access NIST via the internet, and then (if
desired) automatically recalibrate your computer's clock to match THE standard!
U.S. Naval Observatory
Another way to set your
clock, along with some other stuff.
Low-powered FM Broadcasting / Radio4All
An effort is underway to
promote a new category of FCC licensing for low-power FM broadcasting.
These sites have information on the reasoning for this , the process as it's
played out to date,, and what efforts need to be made in order for this to
happen. (The National A$$ociation of Broadca$ter$
doe$n't like thi$ idea, but their reason$ for oppo$ition are $TRICTLY technical, and of cour$e have nothing to do with $topping competition by not making it
ea$ier for regular folk$ to get in on legal broadca$ting.)
If you have comments or suggestions, email me HERE.
I may even pay attention to them, depending on
their content!
